Alphabet St Sutherland

We visited Alphabet St, Sutherland on a windy stormy night. It was no surprise then, that when I saw Quite Storm ( Quit Storm on their Menu) in the Cocktail List, I had to order it. A simple cocktail of vodka lychee and guava it was the perfect drink to start. Someone in the our group also ordered the Alphabet signature cocktail, the Apple Martini, but it was too sweet for my taste. Alphabet St, is a cozy nook that offers modern take on Thai Cuisine. Exemplary friendly service.

It was too hard choosing what to order from the extensive menu, so we settled on the banquet at $65 per head. First up was Grilled Prawns on Betel Leaf. Bold sweet soy flavoured grilled prawn with crispy coconut flakes. Betel leaf , was a lovely fresh peppery touch.

Of all the dishes, this was my least favourite. I like my Five Spice Squid well seasoned, this was a bit underwhelming, and could have done with more salt and spice. The dipping sauce wasn’t anything to write home about either. It was just plain lemon juice, although the calamari itself was cooked perfectly, crisp and tender.

This was a gorgeous silky pork dumpling with crispy fried Inoki mushrooms. The broth was very tasty.

The Chicken Roti was a favourite for all of us. Crispy Pastry, delectable chicken (& sweet potato?) filling and you dunk them in Peanut Sauce. Delicious!

Chicken Apple Coconut Salad. I wasn’t a big fan of this salad. For me, it had too many competing flavours. While I love big punchy flavours, this didn’t work for me. However, my daughter loved it! Chicken, Green Apples, Shredded Coconut with Crispy Sweet Potato Flakes.

Don’t let the idea of fried whole fish deter you. The crispy boneless fish is already pre portioned, which you then dunk in that beautiful “Three Flavour Sauce ” . With plain Jasmine Rice it is a standout dish!

Beef Mussaman Curry was very Authentic Tasting and will transport you to Tropical Holidays . Tender succulent beef pieces in rich and thick Curry Sauce. Just as well there was no dessert or we wouldnn’t have fitted anything in.
