Homemade Hot Chocolate

I have yet to meet anyone who doesn’t like hot chocolate. While you can buy packaged hot chocolate mix, the homemade version made with real cocoa powder is the best. If you make a batch beforehand you can have rich hot chocolate in minutes which is so much more satisfying than store bought.

The following recipe for hot chocolate mix is made of powdered milk cocoa powder shaved chocolate and to make it really indulgent a handful of chocolate chips. The best thing about homemade is that you can customise it to your taste. If you want to make it richer, you use hot milk. You want it healthier? You substitute the normal powdered milk with low fat milk powder and reduce the sugar a little bit.

Packaged in pretty jars, it also makes an excellent present. For a sweet lady you can add rose petals, for Christmas you can add crushed candy canes or for a child or child at heart you can add mini marshmallows. The possibilities are endless.

I was inspired to make the hot chocolate when my friend Mojgan gifted my daughter a chocolate mix and my daughter was going on and on about it. I live in another state so I couldn’t try her hot chocolate but it made me crave one, so I decided to make one myself. So here it is.
